Welcome to Sunrise 271, a wonderful ''retreat'' of a 3,072 square foot, three-bedroom home in Desert Mountain, a world-famous, thirty-four-year-old, gated, golf and recreational development with a private country club in it, in Scottsdale, AZ. The home was remodeled in 2017, before being bought by a Swiss couple in 2018, formerly involved in a five-star Swiss hotel. They spent $174,000 on further remodeling, and $450,000 redecorating it at the highest quality level with a very strong European flair. Due to Covid travel issues, they have decided to sell their wonderful Arizona home and its contents, creating a spectacular, high-fashion, sophisticated opportunity for someone to step into a ready-to-enjoy home in one of the best recreation and golf-oriented developments in the country. The home is a piece of free-standing, custom "soft Southwest Contemporary" exterior architecture on over an acre of beautiful High Sonoran Desert land. The back patio faces north from an elevated ridgeline lot, affording wonderful medium and long-range mountain, desert, and sunset views. At night, the lights from homes in the foreground of the view, up against the Continental Mountains, add a soft touch to the scene. It has a pool, three full-baths, no interior steps, a two-car garage, and is extraordinarily private, being at the end of a fifty-five yard-long, winding, private driveway, with much mature vegetation providing lots of screening.
The interior is pure contemporary luxury! The $450,000 (US Dollars) redecorating was done by a top European designer with an unfailing eye for colours and materials, pursuing an eclectic approach combining contemporary with classic features. The result is a sophisticated, intimate, and welcoming home, a haven of harmony and comfort perfectly blending into the lovely landscape surrounding the property. All furniture was specially designed and custom-made in Europe - mostly France, Italy, and Austria - with an emphasis on highest quality workmanship, using only top designer fabrics such as Armani, Rubelli, Fortuny and Jim Thompson. Exclusive rock crystal, onyx, and forged metal lamps from Italy and New York, equipped with hand-made silk lampshades, provide good lighting and ensure a most appealing and warm ambience. Windows are dressed with powered roller blinds and exquisite draperies, creating a beautiful look, blessed with convenience, and still allowing for beautiful views from all rooms. Deluxe box spring beds, such as used in five-star hotels, are the ultimate in comfort and make for a restful sleep. All artwork was carefully selected and hand-picked among European and US artists. Everything is virtually brand-new, making for a unique opportunity, on a blessed site, in a place, Desert Mountain, that has been attractive to discerning people for over thirty years. The purchase of the home is contingent on the buyer paying the seller $265,000 for these items via a separate Bill of Sale.
Desert Mountain is in a very quiet, serene, safe, secure and beautiful location, spread east to west across the foothills of the Continental Mountains on the northern edge of Scottsdale, with homes at elevations ranging from 2,600' to 3,500' ASL. Thousands of giant Saguaro cacti create a very distinctive landscape, a "signature look" for Arizona and the desert Southwest. All Desert Mountain owners enjoy the use of a nearly twenty-mile long private trail system in the mountains at the back of the development for hiking, running, and mountain biking. The trails get up to 4,500' ASL and enjoy amazing panoramic views out over the entire Valley of the Sun. Members of the Desert Mountain Club can rent horses for trail rides. Membership in the Club is optional via an application process. The owner of the house has an unlimited golf membership he wants to sell, at a very competitive price, under separate agreement. Seven Jack Nicklaus Signature golf courses (six championship courses, and one eighteen-hole par-3 course), four practice ranges, and a high-tech golf performance center cover the golf needs of Club Members.
For social, dining, spa, and fitness needs, the Club has seven major clubhouses with ten different dining venues for the exclusive use of its Members. The "Sonoran Clubhouse" is the Club's fabulous swim (three pools), tennis (nine courts, including one grass, five Har-Tru, and three cushioned hard courts), fitness, spa, pickleball (six courts), bocce (two courts), and croquet facility (two courts). It also has a popular indoor/outdoor restaurant. This clubhouse was completely renovated during 2016 and 2017 at a cost in excess of $12,000,000. It is now perhaps the premier facility of its type in the entire Southwest. The other clubhouses are special in their own rights and combine to provide a terrific range of experiences for the Members. The home is a 140-yard walk to the Jim Flick Golf Performance Center, on the south end of the Renegade Practice Range, a dream of a facility for golfers who like to work on their game. It would be about a ten-minute walk to the back door of the Sonoran Clubhouse, and is close to the development's two entrance/exit gates, making access to the rest of the Valley quick and easy.
Desert Mountain is a very successful development in very high demand, especially from people in California, Oregon, and Washington. As of September 11, 2020, contracts on homes were 133% of 2019's demand at the same point in the year. At that time, there were approximately 1,900 finished homes, ranging in size from 1,800 to over 20,000 square feet, and in price from about $900,000 to over $16,000,000. About 61 homes were under construction, but barely over 4% of the existing inventory was for sale (ten percent is considered "normal"). So, we are in a very active real estate market. Owners have invested over $30,000,000 in individual homes. Desert Mountain has attracted full-and part-time residents, mostly from all over North America and western Europe. Virtually all of them seem to have made "having fun", particularly with a golf club in their hands, a key priority in their lives. Besides fun and great golf, another thing t/hat keeps them in a good mood is real estate taxes that are strikingly lower than what they are used to, particularly if "home" is or was in the Northeast, Midwest, or California. (2020 taxes on this home were only $4,819.22).
Desert Mountain's weather is famously dry and sunny. Our risk of natural disasters is extremely low. Being higher and somewhat removed from the city means the stars are bright at night, the air typically much cleaner, and the daytime high temperatures about ten degrees cooler than the Valley floor, every day of the year. Summers are most enjoyable since it only gets over 100 degrees about ten or twelve days a year here, compared to ninety days at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. And, the temperatures drop fifteen to twenty degrees at night during the summer, a significant difference from life on the Valley floor. The typical lack of humidity means 95 degrees is very comfortable, if you are sitting in the shade. So, being in Desert Mountain on a year 'round basis is a very attractive proposition.
Day-to-day shopping needs for Desert Mountain owners are well-handled within about a ten-minute drive by the merchants in the nearby towns of Carefree and Cave Creek. There are roughly 70 restaurants and bars within about sixteen minutes' drive. Our area is famous for world-class shopping, major league and collegiate sports, terrific air service, and a wide variety of cultural attractions. Desert Mountain's Main Gate is about a forty-five-minute drive to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. Private jets come and go from Scottsdale Airport, about a twenty-five-minute drive from the Front Gate. Desert Mountain is within two and a half hours by car of normally excellent snow skiing in Flagstaff and offers easy access to the entire American West, including San Diego, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, and a plethora of unbelievably beautiful places in Southern Utah. "Paradise" does not overstate it.
Although the current owners used it but a few times, they are very attached to their Arizona home and love being here. They are looking forward to handing it off to a family who will love it as much as they do. So, we are excited about showing it to you someday, also helping you learn about the community, the Club, and the area in order to help you visualize what life here would be like for you! In the meantime, enjoy the photographs of the home, the photographs of some of the Desert Mountain Club's facilities, and the separate Document with links to a variety of useful websites.
