The system was installed in 2009 by American Solar Electric(cost after rebate was approximately $32,000). It is installed on the backyard side of the house making it virtually invisible from the street. It is an 11.4kW system which is 2x to 3x the size of a typical residential solar system. The components consist of 60 195W BP Solar SX 3195 photovoltaic panels (25yr limited warranty) and a Fronius IG Plus photovoltaic inverter (10yr warranty). The system is completely hands-free and is grid-tied to the SRP grid and has bi-directional meters that will allow energy to be used from the SRP grid as necessary, and also allow any overage electricity generated to go back on to the grid resulting in a credit to the SRP account. The summer months (April to Oct) result in 1600 to 2000 kWhrs of electricity generated resulting in a substantial reduction in electricity bills with peak at a max of $150 during the summer. The winter months see 1100 to 1700 kWhrs of electricity generated resulting in bills next to $0 (service fees still apply), and even build up a credit. Every April, SRP will reconcile the account and pay for the electricity credit built up throughout the winter months. The SRP bills detail how much solar power is generated each month vs grid power used.
