What appealed to us about the Ashbury plan itself is that it is an open floor plan (after we removed the wall between kitchen and living room) where we felt all the spaces would be used. We liked the higher ceilings and the large kitchen as we like to cook and entertain. The secondary bedroom having an attached bathroom was a consideration for us. Because we built the house, we were able to extend the garage by 4 feet and also added to the height by 4 feet making a very spacious area for our large vehicle and accommodating hobbies and storage as well. We feel our home has a comfortable feeling and a good flow for us. We are particularly proud of the Pennsylvania flagstone in our landscape as it came from our own quarry in PA. Peter quarried the stone himself and there are several pieces with fossils and petrified wood imprinted on the stone. This stone, unique to Northwest Pennsylvania, is found at the White House in the Rose Garden as well as surrounding the United Nations building and throughout the Princeton University campus...(some of which came from our quarry). We are also happy with the golf course lot which affords us the beauty of green grass and a view unencumbered by walls or other homes. Since we are not on the cart path, we have privacy when we are on the back patio. Our neighborhood turned out to be very friendly and one we added a front patio off the kitchen we found it to be a sociable addition to the house as well as being handy for dining or drinks—really added usable square footage to the house. All in all, we have loved this house and would even consider building the same plan again in our new location.
